Speaker: Pinkaew Laungaramsri, Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences (Chiang Mai University)
Moderator: Sudarat Musikawong, Associate Professor, Institute for Population and Social Research (Mahidol University)
Professor Pinkaew Luangaramsri will discuss her award winning book. Her research traces the genealogy of state inscription of people’s identity through identification documents from the premodern time to the neoliberal era. The book argues that the logic of governing subjects through artifacts has oscillated between the demand for migrant labor and the desire for national security, resulting in a tension that has undermined the aim of the bureaucratic document regime itself.
